Dave is very active in his community, engaging in a wide variety of pro bono law activities. He has participated in numerous community-based pro bono law clinics. Dave is also an active volunteer with Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida (CLSMF, Central Florida's Legal Aid) and has received recognition from this enterprise yearly since 2012. In 2014, Dave was awarded the President's Pro Bono Service Award from The Florida Bar in a ceremonial session of the full Florida Supreme Court. This award was in recognition of Dave's efforts to make justice available to all in his community, regardless of their ability to pay. In 2020, Dave again earned Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida's Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award for pro bono service in Volusia County. In Fall 2024, CLSMF presented Dave with the Belvin Perry, Jr. Legacy of Justice Award for his numerous years of pro bono service. This honor is regarded as CLSMF's lifetime achievement award for pro bono service.
Also in 2024, Dave helped Community Legal Services launch a pro bono Expunction/Sealing clinic in the Volusia/Flagler area. This clinic is directed at removing arrest records of individuals neither formally charged or convicted, or in diversion programs, or not otherwise adjudicated guilty of a felony. The process is governed by Florida statute. Dave continues to participate in other CLSMF Expungement clinics throughout Central Florida by offering his services free of charge. It helps people applying for employment by allowing them to qualify for a better job without an arrest on their background report.
Additionally, Dave was recruited by a Central Florida University as an Adjunct Professor in 2022 to teach Business Law. He referred to this effort as the joyful part of his week.
Dave has also been a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), the Federal Bar Association (FBA), and the Florida Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association (FL NELA).
